PROFESSIONAL / EXECUTIVE   

Librarian III, Public Services Coordinator, Library NEW

Duties:  Serves as a Team Leader within the Public Services department sharing leadership responsibilities with other Public Services Coordinators.  Fulfills the general information needs of library customers by providing reference and reader’s advisory services, technical assistance with electronic resources, and locating library materials while providing excellent customer services.  Coordinates library efforts to meet  marketing and community relations objectives; responsibilities may include writing press releases; creating customer friendly library brochures, displays and tools; promoting and publicizing library programs, collections and services; connecting the library to area businesses and organizations; and designing and updating web pages.

Qualifications: Master's of Library Science degree (M.L.S.) or Master's of Library and Information Science degree (M.L.I.S.) from an A.L.A. accredited university and three years related experience and/or training with progressive responsibilities or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Prefer at least 2 years experience in desktop publishing plus knowledge of current trends in library collections and services; basic journalism skills and familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Publisher or other similar software desired. Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

Target Hiring Range:  $1,612 - $1,769 bi-weekly


ADMINISTRATIVE / OFFICE

 

Office Assistant I – Code Enforcement, Community Development NEW

Duties: Secretarial work for Code Enforcement and Housing Rehabilitation Programs staff of four. Work to include, but not limited to: answering phones, filing, copying, faxing, office supply inventory, and data entry. Forward voice mails and messages, provide front office reception duties for general public and work with City Departments. Assist Code Enforcement staff with preparations for Building and Standards Commission Hearings every six weeks including transcribing minutes. Referrals for junked vehicles, dangerous buildings, Façade Grant and Housing Rehabilitation Services Programs to the appropriate inspectors.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED, and two years experience in a clerical field with office machines such as computers, copiers, fax machines, ten key calculator, typewriter, Dictaphone. Excellent organizational skills and experience working in an office environment communicating with employees and citizens.  Ability to work effectively and courteously with the public, citizen groups and volunteers. Valid Texas Drivers license.

Office Assistant I, Madison Jobe Senior Center| NEW
Duties: Primary clerical support for the Center and the Program Manager.  Answer and route incoming telephone calls, responds to routine questions and action line requests, refers calls and visitors to the appropriate areas of interest.  Creates and maintains records on work orders, requisitions, memos, letters, cash payment requests and handles payroll.  Maintain an accurate accounting of incoming revenue and post into proper accounts.  Maintain an accurate record of all deposits and make deposits daily to City Hall.  Prepare requisitions and cash payment requests.  Maintain receipts and an accurate accounting of petty cash and handle the cash payment request as needed to maintain at least $100 in the petty cash account.  Responsible for filing system and all record keeping.  Responsible for completing monthly reports of participants and recreation units served.  Responsible for monthly reports of revenue collected, deposited and funds paid out of the Silver Star Senior account.  Responsible for the monthly volunteer report of number of volunteers and volunteer hours utilized at the Madison Jobe Senior Center.  Distribute incoming mail to proper individuals.  Coordinates volunteers for all the Center’s special events.  Assists staff and volunteers with special event setup, coordination and clean up.  In order to perform these duties one should be in good physical condition, some lifting, bending and walking required, have computer skills and possess the ability to work with special population.  Willing to become cross-trained in other job responsibilities of the Center in order to maintain good Customer Service to the special population. Hours may vary due to special events.  Must be flexible with work hours.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.  Minimum of 2 -3 years of related clerical or secretarial experience or combination of experience and college education.  Able to communicate effectively with citizens. Competent with word processing, (document creation, and formatting, storing of files, etc.) and able to create, open, save, and enter data into a spreadsheet; competent with email, including sending and opening attachments.  Must be able to type a minimum of 30 wpm.

Police Service Officer, Dispatcher & Jailer SHIFT WORK/WEEKENDS REQUIRED

Duties:  Depending on the assignment, incumbents working the Communications Center may operate a multibutton telephone system, base radios, computer terminals, and teletype equipment to receive, evaluate, and transmit information that frequently involve emergency situations affecting human welfare and safety. May perform either police or city-fire radio communication functions. Receives calls on emergency and non-emergency telephone lines and dispatches units to respond; relays messages between units or between a mobile unit and a stationary base. Takes telephone complaints and requests for information or assistance and relays them to appropriate personnel. Works with intercity communications and maintains logs of activity. Fire duties require recording a running status of each fire and the location of fire vehicles and the preparation of a report on each fire. City duties require dispatching of City vehicles to water and sewer breaks, traffic light malfunction, loose animals, and similar occurrences. Police duties require dispatch of police units, maintenance of police dispatch logs and other police functions. Telecommunicators work either city-fire function or police function independently but are cross-trained and interchanged between those functions. Work is performed under stressful conditions. Work involves evaluating incoming calls, dispatching field units, and transmitting information and messages upon request and/or according to established procedures. Additionally depending on the job assignment, incumbents working the Municipal Jail: guard the prisoner population; assume responsibility for all needs of prisoners during detention; lock prisoners in cell after searching for weapons, valuables, or drugs; perform searches of inmates and all areas for contraband; prepare and serve meals to prisoners; provide or obtain medical aid if needed, including appropriate dispensing of prescription medicine; prepare arrest records identifying prisoners and charges assigned; maintain custody of personal belongings of prisoners; inspect facilities for cleanliness; select trustees for special work assignments; prepare reports concerning inmate population and jail functions; perform administrative and clerical tasks as directed; and may be required to perform strenuous physical activity related to prisoner control.

Qualifications: Minimum 18 years of age at the time of application. High school diploma or GED. Valid drivers license with good driving history. Demonstrate keyboarding proficiency. Communicate clearly and distinctly in English, both verbally and in writing. Normal hearing in both ears. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Entrance examination, polygraph examination and extensive background check required. Ability to work under pressure. Previous experience preferred. Must be available for all shifts and weekends.

Target Hiring Range:  $1,240 - $1,400 bi-weekly


 MECHANICAL / LABOR

 

Animal Control Officer, Animal Control
Duties
: Perform duties to promote compliance with laws regulating animal treatment. Pick up and remove stray, unwanted, diseased or dead animals. Responsible for animal welfare and proper confinement or disposition. Work with veterinarians, citizens, and doctors in quarantine of suspected diseased animals. Issue dog licenses. Issue citations on violations and testify in court.  Maintain shelter by performing such duties as recovery of animals, cleaning, feeding and other duties that may be required. Observe areas of alleged violations and interview available witnesses to determine if laws are being violated. Will be subject to stand-by call-out service (after hours).

Qualifications
: High school diploma or GED. Valid Texas driver license and good driving record. Must have affinity for dealing with animals in a caring and responsible manner. Must be in good physical condition; heavy lifting required. Ability to obtain basic animal control officer certification within one year. Must be able to work weekends and holidays, and on-call.

Target Hiring Range: $1,147 – $1,434 bi-weekly

 


PART-TIME

Part-time Librarian I, Central Information Services - Main Library NEW
Duties:  Works in Central Information Services Department during public service hours; assists patrons in the selection and use of appropriate tools and techniques for using reference sources, both print and electronic.  Assists patrons with questions and works at the  reference desk.  Advises Public Services Manager of problems and may supervise para-professional staff.
Qualifications:  B.A. or B.S. is required.  M.L.S. is preferred.  Current library school students are encouraged to apply.  Knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft Office products and online catalogs needed. Must be comfortable providing support and assistance to computer users. Experience working in customer service and with the public a plus. Bilingual (English/Spanish) desirable.  Must be available to work a combination of evenings and weekends. 
Target Hiring Range:  $15.30 - $19.47 per hour
