Family Connections logoFamilyConnections’ obesity prevention project BOPP, (Breastfeeding-focused Obesity Prevention Project) is aimed at improving local breastfeeding rates and the duration of breastfeeding through providing support services in the hospital, child care settings, and workplace environments in Austin,World Breastfeeding Month - August - Sign Texas. By the end of the first project year, Family Connections hopes to achieve one or more policy changes in five child care centers and in ten local worksites that promote and support breastfeeding.

FamilyConnections is a local non-profit whose mission is to promote and sustain the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of children by working with the adults in their lives to build strong, durable foundations for lifelong health and wellbeing. These adults include parents and guardians, child care providers, teachers, employers, and community leaders.

Austin is the seat of government for the Lone Star State and the sixteenth largest city in the country. Austin occupies a land area of 271.8 square miles and has a population of 1.3 million in the metropolitan area and 690,000 within the city limits. The diverse population -- 52.9 percent White, 30.5 percent Hispanic, 9.8 percent African American, 4.7 percent Asian, and 2.1 percent other -- represents a rich cultural environment.
