2009 Strategic Planning Survey

The Travis County Health and Human Services & Veteran Service Department is continuing to work to improve our programs and services and best serve the community. We want to hear from you. How do you think we're doing? What suggestions do you have for us? Our 2009 Strategic Planning Survey should take no more than 10 to 15 minutes to complete. This information will be used to guide our efforts toward improving our programs, services, and processes. We value your time and greatly appreciate your input!

Overview of the Department

Travis County Health and Human Services & Veterans Service is committed to the vision of optimizing self-sufficiency for families and individuals in safe and healthy communities.

This is accomplished through the delivery of services either directly as a provider or by purchasing services from private and not-for-profit agencies in the community. The organization strives to ensure all residents in our communities have access to services that prevent conditions as diverse as homelessness, injuries from falls, domestic violence, or communicable diseases such as the measles or tuberculosis. Other varied services include the management of the county’s rural transportation program (CARTS), emergency assistance for basic household needs, home weatherization, and services for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Not only does Travis County Health and Human Services & Veterans Service ensure mandated services are available but we strive to ensure disparities experienced by some groups in our communities are also addressed. By creating alliances and partnerships with diverse health and human service organizations, we identify opportunities for coordinating services and the leveraging of resources that can be used in resolving community needs.

Travis County Health and Human Services & Veterans Service must be able to quickly adapt to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by change. Community needs related to accessibility of health and human services programs are often affected by changes in local, state, and national policies. Additionally, changes in the demographics of Travis County, including rapid growth, result in the need for community planning to ensure needed services is available. Travis County Health and Human Services & Veterans Service must position itself to meet the critical challenges of the twenty-first century through a broadened application of health promotion and disease prevention efforts and by working together to provide support for individuals as they increase control over and improve their quality of life.
