Stop Child Abuse License Plates Now Available

Texas now offers Stop Child Abuse specialty license plates. The plates help promote child abuse awareness and generate revenue to child welfare boards across to the state.

To purchase a plate online, go to www.texasonline.com and click on "Order Specialty License Plates."  The Stop Child Abuse plate should appear in the listing under "Organizations."  You will then be directed to enter information to place your order.  Plates may be purchased for any of the following classes of vehicles: Passenger, Truck, Motorcycle, Trailer, or Travel Trailer.   

The Web site also offers an option to print an application and place an order by mail. Please note, however, the application has not yet been revised to show the Stop Child Abuse plate as an option.  At this time, writing Stop Child Abuse on the application in the "Special Plates Choices" area is acceptable.  The plates should also be available through your local county tax assessor's office. 

Plates cost $30 above the normal registration fee.  According to the Texas Department of Transportation web site, $22 of fee "goes to the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to fund programs and services supporting abused and neglected children."  That is based upon the language in the statute (when the Department of Family and Protective Services was still PRS) authorizing sale of the plates.  However, arrangements have been made for the $22 to be directed to the Texas Council of Child Welfare Boards (TCCWB) and for about $18 of that to be directed to child welfare board in the county of sale.  All plates may also be personalized for an additional charge, but all of that cost is retained by TxDOT.  

Souvenir plates are also available to purchase for $20 with half that amount returned to TCCWB and county boards.  The option to purchase the Stop Child Abuse Souvenir plate is not available through the Web site yet, but you may order a souvenir plate by writing in Stop Child Abuse on this application form for the souvenir plate.  This application form should not be used to purchase a plate for your vehicle.
