Oil & Gas Drilling in the City Limits

The Midland Oil and Gas Task Force has reviewed the existing City of Midland ordinance regulating oil and gas drilling and production activities within the city limits and recently provided recommendations to the City Council.  The recommendations were taken into consideration when drafting a modified ordinance to meet the goals of encouraging orderly development and growth of the city while accommodating the rights of mineral owners to reasonable access to their minerals and protecting the health, welfare, and safety of the public.  A public hearing will be held at 3:30 p.m. on October 13th at the Midland CenterClick here to see a DRAFT of the Oil & Gas Drilling Ordinance and the Subdivision Ordinance Amendment.

Rate Changes
Customers of the city’s water, sewer, garbage, and landfill services should expect to see a difference in their bill or fees for service.  Residential garbage customers will pay $1.75 more per month for service. Commercial customers will also notice an increase. Water and sewer rates are increasing 2.5%.  This increase will also be reflected in the November bills.

2009 Christmas Parade
The holidays are approaching and the City of Midland wants to invite the public to sign up to participate in the annual Christmas Parade.  This year’s event will take place on December 5th and be an evening “lighted” parade in Downtown Midland.  The deadline to register your entry in the parade is November 20th.  Click here to register online.

Midland’s Sales Tax Revenue History
Midland experienced a long run, 65 consecutive months, of increased sales tax revenues.  The streak came to an end with a slight decrease in overall revenues received for March 2009.  Sales Taxes for each month are composed of receipts for prior periods, future periods, the current period and audit adjustments to yield total sales tax receipts for the month. Renovations of Centennial Plaza
In the heart of downtown Midland are nearing completion.  The center of the city will soon be alive with activity and the sounds of fountains in full operation.  The plans are part of the overall redevelopment of Midland’s downtown area.  The project is supported by downtown entities.  Click here to see the latest pictures of the new fountains being tested.

Adopt a Friend Fridays
Midland Animal Services staff is participating in an event to help find homes for dogs that are up for adoption.  Adopt a Friend Fridays are held every other Friday at the Do It Yourself Dog Wash located at 2215 N. Midland Drive.  The dogs are already vaccinated and micro-chipped. Be sure to mark your calendars for October 2nd.
