Prohibited Items for Dumpster Disposal


Construction and demolition materials – This type of material must be disposed of by the resident or property owner at their own expense. Disposal of this material is not part of the residential garbage charge. This type of material can be hauled to the City of Lubbock Landfill (call 757-2151 for rates and directions) or you may contact one of the numerous private garbage haulers who can set roll-off boxes at your home or business.

Roofing materials and shingles - This type of material must be disposed of by the property owner at their own expense. Disposal of this material is not part of the residential garbage charge. Large Items - Items too large to allow the dumpster lids to close (mattresses, uncut tree limbs, garage doors, large furniture, etc.) These types of items can be disposed of at the Citizen Convenience Centers if they are generated from a single-family residence or at the landfill if they are generated by a business. Animal carcasses from non-domesticated animals (deer, fowl, horses, pigs, cattle, etc.). Disposal of large animal carcasses in dumpsters is considered a public nuisance and health hazard. Hunters and persons owning these types of animals should make appropriate arrangements for legal disposal of carcasses at their own expense.

The following items are prohibited by state law from disposal in landfills. All of the listed items are accepted at the Citizen Convenience Stations for proper disposal. Please read rules under Citizen Convenience Station section for more information. The following items are prohibited from disposal in landfills and are not part of the residential waste stream so no alternative disposal methods are available. Commercial businesses or individuals that generate this type of waste are responsible for the proper disposal of the waste through a private garbage hauler.
