311 FAQs

What is 3-1-1?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established the 3-1-1 number in the early 1990s for cities to use to alleviate non-emergency calls to local 9-1-1 centers. The 3-1-1 Citizens Call Center provides citizens with direct access to Non-Emergency City Services. Call takers are available 8 to 5 pm daily to answer citizen calls and direct the caller to the desired City Department All Emergency calls still need to go to 9-1-1.
