Area Code 325

325 Area Code

Effective Date: October 5, 2003

325 Cities & Prefixes

In February, 2002, the Commission approved a three-way split for area code 915. The El Paso region will retain area code 915; the Midland/Odessa region will be served by new area code, 432; and the San Angelo/Abilene region will be served by new area code, 325.

Dates to remember:

  • Saturday April 5, 2003 - You will be able to make calls by either dialing the new 432 and 325 codes or the old 915 code. Moreover, those customers calling into the region created by this area code split can reach you by dialing either 915 or 325. This "permissive dialing" period allows time to get in the habit of dialing the new codes.

  • Sunday, October 5, 2003 - The new area codes must be dialed. Callers will get a recorded message reminding them to dial the new area codes.

  • Saturday, December 6, 2003 - Your call will not go through and you will receive no reminder of the new area codes.

To do checklist:

  • Revise printed materials such as personal and business checks, business cards, mailing labels, advertising and promotional materials, business directories, invoices, product packaging and Internet and Web Site information to indicate your area code will change and when.
  • Reprogram or change burglar and fire alarm systems, automatic dialers, modems, cell phones, mobile phones, speed calling lists, fax machines and pagers to handle the new area code.
  • Notify your friends and relatives. Businesses should inform vendors, suppliers, customers, business associates and branch offices.

Special calling plans:

If you have Extended Area Calling (EAC) or Expanded Local Service (ELCS), all these calls remain local and the rate does not change. You may have to dial ten digits to complete a call if your extended local service crosses an area code boundary.

Cities and prefixes for each area code have been provided by the North American Numbering Plan Administration (NANPA), which oversees the area code number assignment system. This information will change as new prefixes are added or returned.

Prefix information will be updated periodically from the NANPA database of Texas prefixes in use in each area code. All prefixes listed on the Texas Area Codes site reflect NANPA numbering data through June, 2009. Because of the way telephone data is assembled, some cities may not be on the list. If you feel any city is not listed or is listed incorrectly, please send the city, prefix, and area code to areacode@puc.state.tx.us and it will be researched and added if NANPA’s information coincides. Any questions or comments about the Texas Area Codes section of the PUC site should also be sent to this address.
