Optional Retirement Program service purchase eligibility
Some employees who work at colleges and universities have the choice of paying into the Optional Retirement Program (ORP). (ORP is governed by the Higher Education Coordinating Board.) ORP service credit can help you qualify for ERS insurance in retirement, but it will not increase your annuity. To use ORP credit to help you retire under ERS, have the college or university fill out the Verification of Optional Retirement Participation form (80 KB PDF) and send it to ERS.
ORP members must return to state employment before buying refunded state service.
