From the intersection of Hwy. 71 and Hwy. 183, take Hwy. 183 south 2.6 miles to Burleson Road. Turn left on Burleson Road and travel 1.2 miles. The park entrance is on your right.

Hours of Operation

Park Hours:
Day use is 8:00 AM to civil twilight (dark).

Sports Fields by reservation only:
7:00 am to 10:00 pm year-round.

Sports facilities are closed every Friday year-round for prepping, and December 1st through February 15th for rehabilitation.

Description

 Richard Moya Park is located in eastern Travis County, approximately 20 minutes' drive from downtown Austin.

Richard Moya Park offers visitors the more gentle topography typical of the Blackland Prairies. Stands of large pecan and oak trees provide ample shade to the grassy picnic areas scattered throughout the park. The peaceful, wooded surroundings, bordered on the south by the meandering Onion Creek, provide an ideal locale for nature study, school outings and bird-watching.

Two miles of hike and bike trails wind through the large pecan groves. An historic, century-old bridge that once spanned a section of the Colorado River in downtown Austin now crosses Onion Creek, providing a scenic backdrop to this diverse urban park. Covered group shelters, regulation softball fields along with Richard Moya's beauty, convenience, and easy accessibility have made it one of the most popular family gathering places in eastern Travis County.

Sports

Richard Moya Park offers lighted baseball/softball fields and a concession stand that may be reserved. Sports fields hours are 8:00am - 10:00pm.  Fee schedule.

Richard Moya Concession Stands:

Many tournament coordinators and other visitors coordinating company picnics enjoy using the concession stand facilities. While we do not provide food, beverages, or serving staff, we do provide a clean, easily accessible facility for people to set up as they wish.

The concession stands contain the following amenities:

  • One average size refrigerator
  • One extra table for supplies

Park staff are responsible for checking to see that the concession stand is clean, that all equipment is functioning properly, that there are ample trash bags for the day, and that the area is free of litter. It is the responsibility of the event coordinator to leave the concession stand clean and free of litter, and to notify park staff if any equipment is damaged or malfunctioning.

The event coordinator must see that all Texas Department of Health regulations are adhered to when selling food to the public.

Ball Field Reservations

Due to the high demand for ballfields in Travis County, we recommend you call well in advance to reserve a field. Sports fields are open from February 15 through December 15, 8:00am to 10:00pm.  Ballfields may be reserved up to one (1) year in advance. All fees are due at the time your reservation is made.

Shelters

Richard Moya Park offers 5 shelters for family reunions, birthday parties, company picnics, school groups, etc.

Shelter features:

  • smooth rectangular concrete floors
  • shingled roof on steel beams with open sides
  • lights and electrical outlets for use with low-wattage appliances only.
  • wooden picnic tables that may be arranged any way you like
  • barbecue pits
  • trash receptacles

Shelter rental fees are required on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays only.
Use of the shelters on Mondays through Thursdays is free and on a first-come, first-served basis. (Reservations are also accepted.) Fees must be paid at the time you make your reservation.

Shelter Reservations

Reservations may be made up to one year in advance with payment.
Large shelters accommodate up to 100 visitors; the small shelters can accommodate 30.

Visitors who wish to reserve a shelter may call our headquarters at (512) 854-PARK (7275) Monday through Friday 9am-5pm to check on availability; however, no reservations are taken by phone. Shelter fees may be paid by mail; however, to guarantee the date of your reservation, we recommend that you come to our headquarters and pay the fee at: 1010 Lavaca, 3rd Floor, Austin, TX 78701

Cancellations must be made at least 6 working days before the event to receive a refund.

Special Notes

  • Day use only complex.
  • All Travis County Parks sports field facilities are closed on Fridays to allow park staff to prepare fields for weekend games and tournaments.
  • All Travis County Parks sports field facilities are closed from December 15 through February 15
  • Ground fires are prohibited in all day use parks.
  • Glass containers and fireworks are prohibited in all Travis County Parks.
