How to Apply for Employment with TDHCA.

To apply for employment you must submit a State of Texas Application for Employment (Word Document on the TWC Web site) for each position in which you are interested.  Applications are accepted only for posted positions.  It is to the applicant's advantage that they supply all information requested in the application so that hiring managers can make sound and informed employment decisions.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  Photocopied applications are acceptable as long as they are current and contain a signature and the applicable job posting number.

Your application should clearly describe how you meet the minimum education and experience requirements as well as the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. You may attach a separate sheet(s) to specifically explain how you meet each of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the job vacancy notice. Interviewee selection is based on information provided in the application materials regarding the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities relative to the position.

All items under Employment History, such as title, employer, starting and leaving dates, supervisor's name and phone number, a full summary of experience, and reason for leaving should be fully completed.

Résumés.  You may attach a résumé as supplementary information.  However, do not write "see résumé" in the "Summary of Experience" box on the application form. Doing so will invalidate your application.

Additional Information/Attachments. The Job Vacancy Notice will include instructions about additional information that may be required to be submitted with your application. Failure to submit the required attachments with your application will invalidate your application.

  • Typing and/or Data Entry Tests.  You may submit typing test scores for positions requiring a minimum typing/data entry speed from Texas Workforce Commission if the test was taken within the last six months.
  • College Transcripts.  If you are using college credit to meet either a minimum or a preferred qualification, a photocopy of your official college transcript(s) is required.
  • Supporting documents should also be submitted when required for the position such as licenses, certifications, and writing samples. Photocopies will be accepted.

Closing Date.  Your application and all required attachments must be received by TDHCA by 5:00 p.m. CST on the closing date indicated on the Job Vacancy Notice (i.e., delivered to the Human Resources Office, faxed, or date-stamped by Human Resources). If the position is posted as "open until filled" it is recommended that you submit your application to Human Resources as soon as possible.

Interview and Selection. Applications received by the closing date will be reviewed to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualification requirements and will be given further consideration. Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted by TDHCA to schedule a date and time for the interview. Only those applicants interviewed will be notified of final selection or non-selection.

Checking Status.  You are welcome to email the Human Resources Office at hrapplications@tdhca.state.tx.us any time for information on the status of the selection process.  Only applicants who are interviewed will be notified when a vacancy is filled.

Criminal History Checks.  TDHCA will conduct criminal history checks through the Texas Department of Public Safety before an employment offer is made.

Selective Service Registration.  If you are a male 18 to 25 years of age, an offer of employment is contingent upon you presenting proof when you report for your first day of employment that you are registered with the selective service system or that you are exempt from registration. Online registration and proof of registration is available on the Selective Service System's website.

Veteran's Preference. TDHCA adheres to the Texas Veteran's Preference Act.

Immigration Reform and Control Act.  Requires all new employees to present proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.

Accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be made for persons with disabilities during the application process or at the time of employment. Requests for accommodation should be made to the Human Resources office as early as possible in the application/employment process.

TDHCA strives to hire the best-suited applicant for each vacancy.  You will greatly increase your chances for securing an interview by taking the time to provide clear, detailed information on your application.

Please contact the Human Resources Office at hrapplications@tdhca.state.tx.us if you have further questions about TDHCA application procedures or if we may be of further assistance.
