Medicaid is the State and Federal cooperative venture that provides medical coverage to eligible needy persons. The purpose of Medicaid in Texas is to improve the health of people who might otherwise go without medical care for themselves and their children. Medicaid is different in every state. HHSC's Medicaid Office is responsible for statewide oversight of the Texas Medicaid Program. Consumer Direction Workgroup Now Accepting Applications Individuals who use or may use consumer direction for their long-term services and supports, their parents and guardians, service provider, and advocates are invited to apply for membership on the Consumer Direction Workgroup by Sept. 15, 2009. The workgroup helps health and human services agencies develop options for greater consumer control of their home-based, long-term services and supports such as personal attendants and respite care providers.
