Travis County Juvenile Court

Court Services consists of

  • intake, where juveniles are originally brought when an offenses has been committed;

  • deferred prosecution, where juveniles are informally processed for misdemeanor offenses, and mediation and community service restitution services are used to hold the juvenile accountable for his or her offense;

  • the court unit, where court investigators prepare cases for court to address the alledged delinquent conduct of juveniles; and

  • the legal unit, which prepares and documents legal proceedings for court and maintains legal files.

Detention Services is the division responsible for housing and supervising juveniles awaiting trial who cannot be returned to the community during that time.

The Domestic Relations Office (http://www.co.travis.tx.us/dro/default.asp) receives, records, and passes on child support payments for parents whose court orders originated in Travis County. Staff counselors and attorneys intervene when there is a child support, visitation, or medical insurance dispute and may set cases for court enforcement. The Guardian Ad Litem program (http://www.co.travis.tx.us/dro/family_court.asp) provides investigation and court testimony in custody disputes.

Probation Services consists of three field supervision units, an intensive supervision unit, and a resource management unit. They are responsible for supervising juvenile offenders who have been tried in court, found guilty, and placed on probation. Supervision affords public protection, teaches juveniles accountability for their actions, and enhances their ability to make decisions in their lives.

Residential Services provides residential care to court-committed, male juveniles. They also manage the Gardner Betts Day School Program for AISD students who are under court supervision.
