History
of Fannin County
Fannin County
lies along the famed
Red
River and was once part of the original Red
River County created after Texas declared it's Independence from Mexico.
Fannin County was created on 14 December 1837 along with 39 North Texas
counties which were carved out of Red River County. The
Republic of Texas became the 28th State of the United States of America.
Fannin County was named for
James
Walker Fannin Jr. and the county seat of Bonham, is named for James Butler Bonham both died in the War of Texas Independence.
