The Phil Music program started in 1981 as time-filler (“fill music”) and has evolved to the home of the fictional Phil Music, the always-absent host who loves music almost as much as Larry Monroe. From Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen and Bob Dylan to Warren Zevon and Elvis Costello, Phil Music delivers music with heart, soul, intelligence, and a personal touch.

It ran first on Friday or Saturday, then moved to 8 p.m. to midnight on Sunday. Texas Radio is the first program in Austin exclusively to feature Texas Music, and is the longest running Texas Music program in Texas. In fall of 1984, the first hour of Texas Radio was given up to make room for LiveSet. LiveSet (www.kut.org/liveset) features live performances every Sunday from 7p.m. - 8 p.m., hosted by different on-air producers. Tune in for some of the best darned music you'll hear anywhere on the planet! Although LiveSet is hosted by a different one of our on-air programmers each week, one thing remains constant (besides Walter, that is): The great live musical performances of Central Texas artists!

The show airs a weekly segment (15-30 minutes) highlighting an artist's work in a continuous block which includes exclusive live interviews and performances with many of the featured artists.
