What if you stop working for the State?

If you terminate from state employment and do not withdraw of your retirement contributions, you can still qualify for retirement at age 60, if you have the required years of service, or under the Rule of 80, even if your age and service will not total 80 until after you have left state employment.

This information is for state agency employees who have contributed to an ERS retirement account and wish to withdraw their contributions after they leave state employment.

You can use sick and annual leave to help you satisfy requirements for retirement, group insurance eligibility as a retiree, and to increase your annuity benefit. If you have a Texa$aver account when you leave employment, you can turn your unused annual leave payment into retirement savings.
