Photo for visual interest. On the roadway, construction equipment removes pavement and offloads it using a conveyor belt into a dumptruck to its right. A second dumptruck waits behind the first. One maintenance worker operates the equipment from atop the vehicle, and another walks toward him. Cars and sports utility vehicles travel in the adjacent late, separated from the construction by concrete barriers.

Construction and Maintenance

From evaluating underlying soil and geologic structures to studying towering roadway facilities, TTI researchers address all levels of construction and maintenance considerations. They expand the knowledge base and develop tools and methods for adding value to construction projects that ease travel and plan for improved transportation in the future. Experience in project stages from initial public involvement to extending lives of roadways provides a solid foundation for research into construction and maintenance issues.

TTI researchers have expertise in designing, developing, and evaluating new and existing materials and structures, structural designs, construction techniques, non-destructive and emerging test procedures, and repair and rehabilitation methods. Past projects cover numerous components across multiple construction and maintenance fields including geotechnical considerations, materials and pavements, construction, safety, environmental design, crash testing, and computer simulation.
