National Do Not Call Registry Opens: Consumers in Texas can now register for the National Do Not Call List by visiting www.donotcall.gov or by calling, toll-free, 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236).

Since Oct 1st 2004, consumers have been able to register for the Statewide “Do Not Call List” free via this Web site. You will still be charged if you register via the Automated 1-866-896-6225 phone line or if you mail your application form.
 

INTRODUCTION

You can add your name, address and telephone number to the state-sponsored “No Call List,” which will help limit telemarketing calls to your residential or wireless telephone. The “No Call List” is sponsored by the Public Utility Commission (PUC.)

STATEWIDE “DO NOT CALL” LIST

The statewide “Do Not Call List,” will apply to any telephone marketer, including Retail Electric Providers, calling a Texas residential or wireless phone number. Your registered telephone number(s) will remain on this list for three years. If you register via the Automated Registration, at 1-866-896-6225, or mail in your application, there is a registration charge of $2.25 for each phone number to be included in this list. You may register online at no charge.

Wireless phone numbers may now be registered on the statewide “Do Not Call List.”

WHEN WILL THESE CALLS STOP?

The date of your registration determines the date by which all telemarketing to your number must stop:

ARE THERE EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULES FOR TELEMARKETERS?

Yes. Telemarketers may contact customers:

  • with whom they have an established business relationship;
  • if the customer requests contact;
  • to collect a debt; or
  • if the telemarketer is a state licensee (for example – insurance or real estate agent, etc.) and:
    1. the call is not made by an automated device;
    2. the solicited transaction is not completed without a face-to-face presentation to complete a sales transaction and make payment;
    3. the consumer has not previously told the licensee that the consumer does not wish to be called.
Telemarketers with questions regarding their compliance obligations should consult with legal counsel.

  • At www.TexasNoCall.com - Use the Internet for an easy, automated method that provides instant registration. The site is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. To register by mail, use the printable registration form.
  • Request a registration form by calling 1-866-TXNOCAL(L) (1-866-896-6225).

Telephone registrations must be paid by credit card. Mailed applications may be paid by credit card or by check made payable to Texas No Call.
