Intensity of drought surpasses previous droughts

LCRA Transmission Services Corporation (LCRA TSC) now has more time to study additional possible transmission line routes it plans to build in West Texas and the Hill Country. This comes after the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) today granted LCRA TSC a motion to delay. Learn more.
Crane at Ferguson Plant helping install environmentally friendly equipment
Horseshoe Bay residents may have noticed a new addition to the Thomas C. Ferguson Power Plant site: a 100-foot-tall construction crane. LCRA crews are using the crane to install new equipment that will further reduce the amount of nitrogen oxides (NOx) that are emitted by the plant as it burns natural gas to generate electricity. Drought remains serious despite improved designation
Drought designations released by the U.S. Drought Monitor on Thursday, Sept. 17 show improvement in conditions across the Colorado River basin as a result of the recent rains. Despite these improvements, LCRA encourages water users to continue following mandatory watering restrictions and to help conserve water. Learn more
Central Texas Drought: Learn how the drought is affecting our region
Central Texas DroughtAn unusually hot and mostly dry weather pattern in place since early June has caused drought conditions to deteriorate to levels not seen since the drought of the 1950s. The drought of the mid-1950s is considered the worst drought on record for most of Central Texas. But for Bastrop, Caldwell and Lee counties, the current drought appears to be the worst ever due to the extreme lack of rain. Wind power is hot in Texas
LCRA and CREZFind out more about Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ) in West Texas and the Panhandle and how the Public Utility Commission of Texas plans to use them to transfer wind-generated electricity and other power to the state's population centers. These and other CREZ-related projects will significantly increase Texas' current electric transmission capacity for wind power. In May LCRA Transmission Services Corporation held 10 public open houses to explain some of the CREZ projects it will build and to seek public input. About 1,900 people signed in at the meetings.
