Senior Texans Page

The Office of the Attorney General is committed to protecting senior Texans. As parents, grandparents, and long-time contributing members of our communities, senior Texans deserve our respect and gratitude.

The Attorney General protects senior consumers by taking legal measures under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and other consumer protection statutes. We invite senior consumers to explore the wealth of information in the consumer section of this Web site.

The Attorney General also investigates abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of seniors in long-term care facilities that receive federal Medicaid funds. This agency also takes legal action, upon referral from the Department of Aging and Disability Services, against nursing homes, assisted living facilities and home health care agencies that violate state and federal standards.

This agency also issues periodic senior and consumer alerts. You can sign up to receive these through our e-mail subscription service. The same service also offers weekly columns on a wide variety of important topics, law enforcement updates and notifications of opinions.
