The process by which a Texas Licensed Engineer may become appointed as a qualified windstorm inspector is a follows:

  • We encourage all applicants to review the Engineer Appointment Rule (28 TAC §5.4604) prior to completing the ENG-1 Form.
  • The ENG-1 Form must be completed and submitted to the Engineering Services Section of the TDI with all supporting documentation.

Submission of the ENG-1 form indicates that the applicant understands and will comply with the requirements stated in Chapter 2210 of the Texas Insurance Code and 28 TAC §5.4604 of the Texas Administrative Code.

  • The ENG-1 form and supporting documentation is reviewed by the TDI engineering staff, and the Texas Board of Professional Engineers is contacted to determine if registration is current.

  • After review and approval, notice of appointment as a qualified inspector will be distributed to all interested parties and posted in the Appointed Engineer list located in the Texas Department of Insurance Windstorm Inspection Program Website.
