PROBATE MINUTES, 1846-1934
Index: There is a confusing array of indexes to the probate records,
including an index to the indexes, and the use of two or more in combination
will likely be needed to find particular cases. The probate case papers
were originally filed alphabetically and only later assigned case numbers.
Shortly after the turn of the century, new case numbers were assigned
to replace the original ones, but in some instances the old case numbers
still appear on one or more documents in a case. We suggest that if a
researcher cannot find a case by number that the cases be searched alphabetically
to the extent possible. We also suggest that researchers begin their search
with the index to probate indexes.

The 1898-1942 index is a transcription and continuation of the 1898-1933
index, but it does not contain the entries in the 1898-1933 index for
the first 130 pages of Volume 2 of the Divorce Minutes. Volume 1 of the
Divorce Minutes was destroyed and the original Volume 2 of the Divorce
Minutes was badly damaged by fire in 1910. The first 130 pages of the
current Volume 2 of the Divorce Minutes is a transcription of salvageable
portions of the original Volume 2.
Note: There is no Volume J in the District Court Civil Minutes.
