For these reasons and many others, the theme for Fire Prevention Week, October 4-10, 2009 is "Stay Fire Smart! Don't Get Burned!" Washington, D.C. - The Department of Homeland Security has determined that additional time is warranted for states to submit a request for an additional extension. States must file a request for an extension by December 1, 2009. This rule does not change the January 1, 2010 compliance date.
