MID-AMERICA ARTS ALLIANCE AWARDS 16 GRANTS TO 
PRESERVE ARTS JOBS

Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a national initiative to preserve jobs in the arts, Mid-America Arts Alliance has awarded more than $300,000 in grants to nonprofit arts organizations in its six-state region of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. See our complete list of grantees.

 

 

 

REGIONAL TOURING PROGRAM AWARDS ANNOUNCED

 

Mid-America Arts Alliance has awarded over $500,000 in funding support to touring performing arts programs in six states.  For information on artists and presenters, follow the link.

 
SHELDON ARTS FOUNDATION RECEIVES MID-AMERICA ARTS ALLIANCE GRANT

The Sheldon Arts Foundation has announced that it will receive funding from Mid-America Arts Alliance as a regional presenter through Mid-America's "Community Engagement with Touring Artists" (CETA) program.  The award will support five performances at the historic Sheldon Concert Hall, a venue designed to introduce jazz to new audiences as well as to deepen the impact of the touring artists' performances. To learn more about the line-up, which includes Dee Dee Bridgewater and Cyrus Chestnut, follow the link.

   
Donald Johnston, a member of the Mid-America Arts Alliance Board of Directors, has been recognized by the KU Alumni Association as a 2009 recipient of the Fred Ellsworth Medallion for "unique and significant service" to the University of Kansas“As the first in my family to attend college," said Mr. Johnston, "I was able to earn my degrees with help from dedicated alumni who were both generous and tireless in their support and encouragement for KU, and I have tried to follow their example for all these years.  Receiving the Alumni Association’s  Ellsworth Medallion for service to the University is extremely meaningful to me, and an unexpected honor which I shall treasure always.”
 
A consistent and tireless advocate for the arts, Mr. Johnston has served the boards of The Lied Center, the Friends of the Theatre, the School of Fine Arts, and the KU Natural History Museum, and has led a corporate fund drive for the Spencer Museum of Art.
