Kingsville International Competitions will offer Bowed Instrument (String) and Piano Competitions on a rotating schedule. In 2009 the Kingsville Competitions will host a Piano Concerto and Piano Solo Competition. Over $23,000 in prize money is available for distribution to winners in various contests. The highest-ranking winner will receive a minimum total of $6,000 in cash prizes and a performance award with The Festival de San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Performances are also possible with the Victoria, Texas, Symphony Orchestra and the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. Deadline is January 23, 2009.

Brazos Nights is a free concert series organized by the City of Waco Parks and Recreation Department. Performances take place on the first Fridays of April through June and on July 4 at Indian Spring Park next to the historic Suspension Bridge. Featuring first-class local, regional, and national artists, Brazos Nights offers everything from blues to country to polka. Along with music, the events include food, drinks, dancing, art and games for kids. Brazos Nights concludes on July 4 with a fantastic fireworks display over the Brazos River.

Chilifest is one of the most anticipated events each year in the Brazos Valley. The annual event draws over 20,000 people. All the proceeds from the festival go to local community organizations. The annual Poteet Strawberry Festival is recognized as one of the oldest and most popular events in the state. The Texas Tech Jazz Band Festival features jazz performers from around the nation. This year's special guest is the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Past performers include the Yellowjackets and Spyro Gyra. Friday night's concert features the TTU Jazz Enseemble I with special guests Reggie Thomas on Hammond organ and Wes Anderson on alto saxophone will be held in the Allen Theatre. Saturday night's concert featuring the Duke Ellington Orchestra will be held in the Allen Theatre. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m.

The Austin Record Convention is the largest sale of recorded music in the USA. There is more music and related memorabilia available here, at one time, than anywhere else. Ranging from the 78s of the 1930s to the latest compact discs of today, over one million 78s, 45s, LPs, CDs, cassettes, posters and collectibles (probably even a few 8-track tapes!) are in the auditorium. Over 300 different dealers from all over the USA and Europe are spread out over 50,000 square feet of floor space. The show is so big that to see everything takes most of the weekend, so if you're in a hurry we have search announcements at 12, 2, and 4 o'clock from the concession area to help in locating specific items. The show brings together collectors and dealers from all over the world for a weekend of activity in Austin. Early Shopper Admission: $25 US residents, $10 International residents

The Concerts in the Park series replaced the Texas Music Sundown Concerts series in 2008 and was extremely popular with local audiences. The series occurs in Plano's pastoral Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, in the beautiful Amphitheater at Oak Point Park and is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department. The schedule for this season is as follows: Sat, April 4, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. - "A Bowl Full of Blues: The Ladies Sing the Blues." Featured artists will be Janiva Magness and her band and Diunna Greenleaf with Blue Mercy. Friday, May 8, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. - "Beatles Tribute Night", featuring "American English", back by popular demand following last year's sold-out performance. Finally, on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. - "Surf the Bowl" a tribute to the good time music of the Beach Boys and other surfer bands of the 1970's. Beach wear is suggested for this event! Tickets available online. Parking is free for all events. The Amphitheater at Oak Point Park is a smoke-free facility. Coolers and picnics are welcome. Alcohol permitted for patrons 21 years and older. Children three years and younger admitted free if accompanied by parent.

Ray Wylie Hubbard has been asked a time or two over the years why he doesn't put on his own festival, he's certainly played his share of them. A polite, "Good idea, maybe next year", was the standard response. Well next year is finally this year and April 4, Hubbard takes the stage at the first Ray Wylie Hubbard's Grit-n-Groove Festival in the legendary Luckenbach Dance Hall. The solid lineup reads like a who's who of Hubbard's favorite friends: performers will include Patty Griffin, Charlie Sexton, Hayes Carll, The Band of Heathens, Sam Baker, Gurf Morlix and Omar Dykes. "When we started talking about doing our own festival I went through my rolodex and wrote down the coolest, grittiest, groovin' songwriters I knew and called them, never really expecting them to say yes, and they all did!"

Scarborough Renaissance Festival is a 16th century English Renaissance village. Music, arts and crafts, food and games are all taken from around life in England in the 1550s during the reign of King Henry VIII. The Tejano Music Awards creates recognition and public awareness of Tejano music by presenting awards to performing artists, musicians, and composers. The Tejano Music Awards is taped for national television and radio distribution. The 2009 Fort Worth Opera Festival will include ancillary events along with the opera productions of Carmen, Cinderella (La Cenerentola), and Dead Man Walking, which all will be staged at Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth. FWOpera was founded in 1946 and is the oldest, continually performing opera company in Texas and one of the 14 oldest opera companies in the United States. The company produces between three and four operas per season. The company revamped its mission and image in early 2003, and converted to a festival format, hosting its first inaugural festival season in 2007. Fort Worth boasts an unusual mix of western culture, urban sophistication and fine art. Downtown Fort Worth is a lively spot for residents and tourists; activities include fine dining, shopping, nightclubs and the opera house, Bass Performance Hall.

Fiesta San Antonio is a 10-day extravaganza that celebrates the city's history and cultural diversity. More than 90 nonprofit groups and military organizations stage 100 events. Some 3.5 million people enjoy parades, dances, music festivals, art exhibits, athletic events, carnival rides and patriotic ceremonies. Music permeates Fiesta. From marching bands to mariachis, from jazz to conjunto, from rock ’n’ roll to German oompah-pah, there’s something to please every ear. The Alamo, shrine of Texas independence, is the heart of Fiesta. But celebrations also take place at churches, colleges, museums, historic sites and the world-famous River Walk. Swing into spring at the North Texas Jazz Festival in Addison. This is our ninth year for the educational component featuring the best big bands, combos, and jazz vocal groups from the nation's leading schools and universities. The 2009 lineup will include UNT One O'Clock Lab Band, UNT Two O'Clock Lab Band, UNT Jazz Singers, UNT Jazz Faculty Ensemble, the Adjudicators Showcase and performances by student musicians from 70 schools representing 25 states throughout the country. The Tierney Sutton Band will headline the April 18th concert. Jazz scholar Hal Miller will present continuous screenings of rare jazz films from his private collection throughout the Festival. Miller is the curator of one of the world's most comprehensive personal jazz video collections with more than 9,000 items.

Cattleman's Tejano Explosion started as a small Fiesta event over ten years ago. It has evolved over the years into the "Must See" Tejano Music Event for Tejano music lovers the world over. Don Edwards, Texas balladeer, guitarist, composer, author, and Cowboy Hall of Famer, will be the featured performer at the 2009 Big Event Friday Night Evening of Entertainment in the relaxed atmosphere of the Bosque Conservatory. The Grammy-nominated singer's genuine interest in the West made him the perfect selection to be cast by Robert Redford in "The Horse Whisperer." James Earl Jones commented "Think of Don Edwards as a singing scholar of the old West. We are a little lax about these family heirlooms of ours and ought to be grateful to have such a great caretaker of them." Donna Ingham, well-known Texas Tall Tale Teller, will also be featured during the evening.

This event started in April 1990 and has continued over the years to remain a small family oriented festival. The Burton Farmers Gin was built in 1914 and closed in 1974. We also have a parade on Saturday morning that includes our mule team and antique tractors and cars. We have entertainment on Friday evening, all day Saturday and Saturday evening, all day Sunday. The theme of daytime is German/Chek/Country/Cajun. Night time is Rock and Roll/Country and usually well known in the county and surrounding counties. We use children's entertainment during the day and also Folklife Interpretation. We have an average weekend attendance of 10,000 people. Come celebrate the oldest operating cotton gin in America. The annual Kirbyville Magnolia Festival is held the third weekend in April at the Magnolia Park on US Highway 96 at Hebo Street. The Festival is sponsored by the Magnolia Festival Committee. All proceeds are used for community development. The event begins with the opening of the carnival on the Wednesday night prior to the third weekend. The carnival runs Wednesday through Saturday, with special arm band nights and rides to suit every age group. The Houston International Festival (iFest) spotlights Ireland, April 18-19 & 25-26, 2009. iFest, known as one of the nation's largest presenters of world music, features hundreds of internationally acclaimed artists on 12 performance venues throughout downtown Houston. The Texas State Championship Fiddlers Frolic features more than 100 contestants competing in age divisions for the $1,500 top prize and state championship trophy. The event's lineup is as follows: jam session for early arrivals on Thursday; Cajun and Bluegrass Night on Friday with Cajun bands and Cajun food; a dance with Nashville stars, contests, and barbecue, sausage, and chili cookoffs on Saturday; and on Sunday, induction of worthy fiddlers to the Hall of Fame, fun run, cookoffs, and the State Championship Fiddler contest finals. The Denton Arts and Jazz Festival is an annual three-day arts in the park featuring the best in professional jazz and cross-cultural music on three stages. Muenster was founded in 1889 by people of German heritage and Catholic faith. Wildflower Trails is a celebration at the start of the wildflower blooming season. The Wildflower Trail consists of Highways 49, 155, and 11 between Avinger, Linden, and Hughes Springs. There are literally thousands of different varieties of wildflowers naturally occurring in the area. Although blooming of wildflowers is unpredictable, the last full weekend in April has proven to be one of the most beautiful. Ducks Unlimited will host their 4th annual Duck Jam, April 25, 2009 in College Station, TX at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater. This years' show is taking on a much broader scope and will allow for a true festival and expo feel. Music from Texas Country, Rock and Southern Country will take the stage by performances by Clay Walker, Kevin Fowler, Bad Company former lead singer Brian Howe, Band of Heathens, South Austin Jug Band, and Seth James. A Lil' Quacks Kid Zone will host an additional stage for various entertainment including, Trout Fishing In America. Crafts, Activities and concessions will round out the area. A huge crawfish boil and Cajun Jam will take place on the grounds with music by Dr. Zog. An IBCA sanctioned BBQ cook-off will host over 70 teams in 3 different categories; chicken and spare ribs, brisket and duck. The Dock Dogs Big Air Series (as seen on ESPN and the Outdoor Channel) will kick off the event at 9:00am. Over 400 dogs will compete for the regions World Championship by jumping off a dock into a 40'+ length pool for the longest jump. Kayak races and a duck calling contest will also add to a packed day of family and community fun!

Yesterfest is sponsored by the Bastrop Opera House and the Downtown Business Association (DBA) and the. This year's event will kick off at 9:00 a.m with activities around Bastrop (not at Fishermans Park), you will experience a wide variety of activities depicting the different times of Bastrop's history. There will be various pioneering groups displaying the clothing and tools used long ago as well as music and dancing. Some individuals will be wearing authentic cowboy outfits along with their six-shooters, in addition there will be a variety of individuals showing off other style clothing worn during pioneer days. There will be displays showing how things were made for example: fabric, quilts, wooden tools, and many others. We will have folk music, dancing, exhibits, games, lots of good food and friendly people to make for a great experience.

The Texas Music Awards are not a contest or a popularity poll, but rather a recognition of achievement voted on 70% by those who have received the awards in the past, 20% by the Academy members, and 10% by the general public. Past celebrity hosts include Michael Martin Murphey, Sonny Burgess, and Gary P. Nunn. Michael Martin Murphey will again host this year and perform a concert immediately after the awards show. Red carpet begins at noon. Show begins at 2:00 p.m.

Prepare yourself to be dazzled by a tantalizing evening of intoxicating sights and sounds from the farthest reaches of the globe. Austin Chronicle "best world music band" Atash will headline the event along with other world class performances featuring sizzling music & captivating dances from Latin America, Africa & the Middle East. This exotic evening is sure to keep you on your feet. All profits will benefit Casa Marianella / Posada Esperanza, a non-profit organization dedicated to offering emergency shelter and empowerment services to International refugees and homeless immigrant families, many of whom are single women with children. Other entertainment includes the modern, yet eternal Middle Eastern music of Govinda; Salsa dance champions, Jazzy Dance; the multicultural percussive Buscando El Monte; Ritmo Tres' tantalizing Salsa rhythms; the enthralling song and dance of Africa-based Lannaya; sensual belly-dancing by Sabaya; the awe-inspiring "multimedic" Aqua Drums. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
