As part of The Town of Addison's Summer Series, Summer Salsa features some of the hottest names in salsa. With this year's line-up you won't want to skip a beat or a cha-cha. Acoustic Music Camp is a 3-day camp for acoustic musicians providing personalized instruction on how to play mandolin, bluegrass banjo, flat pick guitar, country/blues acoustic guitar, acoustic bass, fiddle, song writing, and harmony vocals. The 8th annual BBQ Cookoff hosts a famous IBCA-sanctioned BBQ cooking competition, where teams compete for the best BBQ chicken, beef, and ribs. But there is more to this event than just BBQ: this is a 2-day family event with something for everyone, including live music! This year's Saturday night band will be the Scott Wiggins Band. All proceeds from this event go towards helping the La Vernia Park Foundation meet it's main goal and objective: Making park improvements!

There are nine bands ready to jam at the 2009 Cooper Lake Center Bluegrass Festival. The two-day event will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 7 and 8. The bands will be on the stage at 1 and 7 p.m. Friday and noon and 6 p.m. Saturday. Bands scheduled for Friday include Hickory Hill, Salt Grass, High Strung and The Mack Smith Band. On Sunday, audience members will hear music from Wildwood Valley Boys, Bonham Review, Bowls Creek, The Welch Mountain Boys and Blue River, accompanied by Amy Asbill Patrick. The easiest way to get to the center is to take Texas 19 to Country Road 4795 (the road to Cooper Lake Dam) and follow the signs. The hot weather during the 2008 festival prompted the SSRDA to construct a 4,800-square-foot shade in front of the stage. There will be food and drinks, but no alcohol will be allowed as the Cooper Lake Center is located on government park land.

The Navasota Blues Fest is held annually in August, in memory of Mance Lipscomb, Navasota Songster. For two days local, regional and out-of-state blues musicians gather to celebrate the heritage of blues music and honor Mance Lipscomb. Proceeds benefit related activities and the Mance Lipscomb Scholarship Fund, which gives scholarships not only to a deserving high school graduate, but also continuing education scholarships to previous winners still pursuing an education. The event is held in an air-conditioned hall and tables are available for all patrons. Food is exceptionally good: barbeque brisket, chicken, ribs and sausage; fried shrimp and catfish, baked potatoes - plain or stuffed with BBQ brisket; roasted corn-on-the cob; beer, wine coolers, set-ups, sodas and bottled water and much more! BYOB - liquor and wine only. No coolers - no video cameras - no pets. Kid's area for kids 5 years and up. Plenty of parking space. Undercover parking for bikes.

Classic car, tractor, motorcycle display's at downtown area banks on Friday. Come see a Friday night concert at the Wilbarger County Auditorium. Saturday kicks off with the Vernon Police Dept. Burn-Out Contest. The Registered Cruise (limited to 1978 and Older vehicles only) is 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Summer's Last Blast wraps up Sunday with a Car Show in Roy Orbison Park.

The East Texas Sacred Harp Singing Convention is an a cappella shape note singing from a songbook entitled "The Sacred Harp." The East Texas Convention, founded in 1855, is the oldest singing convention in Texas and the second oldest continuous Sacred Harp singing convention in the United States. Singing begins at 9:30 on Saturday morning and singers sing until about 3 p.m. for each of two days, with appropriate breaks. Lunch is provided by the Convention. Singers from many U.S. states annually descend on Henderson, Texas for this special event.

In its fifth year, Premios De Texas will feature bands and artists from around the world, as well as local bands, such as Vallejo. The musicians represent various Latin music genres, including pop, tropical, regional Mexican, rock and urban. The award winners are chosen by Texas voters. A free pre-event concert on Aug. 12 is expected to draw about 5,000 people. The invite-only awards program will take place at the Long Center on Aug. 13, and attract about 2,500 people. For the first time, "Premios Texas 2009" is airing nationally on cable, Spanish-languange network Galavisión on Sunday, August 23 at 7 p.m. Central Time. Univision - Galavisión's parent company - will also air the show in some of its markets.

The Cowboy Homecoming Celebration starts on Thursday with county team roping and carnival while Friday morning features the Cowboy breakfast and later a petting zoo and South Texas Dairy display in the afternoon. The queen's coronation takes place prior to the rodeo and the working cowboy of the year is announced as well as the induction into the Cowboy Hall of Fame Night volleyball tournament (4's and 6's) . The 2009 national Tejano music convention & awards, the largest Latin music convention in the United States, serves as an industry and fan-based "meeting ground" bringing together national Tejano enthusiasts for the expressed purpose of music and dance appreciation. The event features performances by Tejano and conjunto veterans Gary Hobbs, Ram Herrera, Jay Perez, Hometown Boys, Elida Reyna and many others. Activities: County fair
The Fayette County Country Fair is four days of fun during the Labor Day weekend. Events include a livestock and poultry show, agricultural exhibits, culinary exhibits, hay show, talent show, a parade, free dancing every night, and a German-Czech mart with good food, drinks and live music. Various arts and crafts and a Queen's contest is included. The fair also boasts Nashville entertainment, a large carnival, shuttle buses and plenty free parking. Also special events for children

The Arthritis Foundation and the Heart O Texas Fair Complex have partnered to present the 14th annual Margarita & Salsa Festival on Saturday, August 29th. The event will feature the best country music in Texas with The Randy Rogers Band, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Kevin Fowler and will continue the tradition of the popular contest where local restaurants and individuals vie for the title of Best Margarita, Salsa, Queso and/or Guacamole.
