Application Process

To apply for a job with TDLR, submit a completed State of Texas Uniform Application for Employment and return it to Human Resources. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of State Applications. Please submit a separate application for each position for which you want to be considered. Your education and experience must match the minimum qualifications identified on the posting. Human Resources screens all applications for minimum qualifications, and only those applicants meeting the minimum requirements and include requested documentation, such as writing samples and certificates, will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor. An applicant will be contacted directly by the hiring supervisor if selected for an interview. An acknowledgement letter will be sent to non-interviewed, non-qualified applicants. Interviewed applicants who are not selected will be contacted directly by the hiring supervisor from the division where employment was sought.

Benefit Benefit Defined Who Pays
Group Health Insurance Employees are eligible to select health coverage through Blue Cross / Blue Shield or from an HMO. Optional coverages include
Dependent Life, Optional Term Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Long & Short Term Disability Insurance. Dental programs also available. All employees are enrolled in pre-tax
savings program, which is the deduction of eligible insurance premiums prior to FICA and federal withholding taxes. New employees’ health insurance benefits become effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
The agency pays the cost of health coverage for a full-time employee and one-half the cost for dependents. The employee pays the cost of any remaining premium. Employees pay for all optional coverage selected.
*Tex-Flex Benefit Tex-Flex provides options to pay eligible expenses, dependent care, elder care for a spouse, and allowable health care costs with pre-tax salary dollars. The employee specifies the amount of salary to
be redirected to a reimbursement account up to specified maximums. The redirected money will not be taxed by FICA
or subject to federal withholding.
Annual Leave Full-time employees accrue a minimum of 8 hours per month of annual leave; part-time employees accrue leave on a proportionate basis. Hours accrued are based on total years of state employment. Vacation with pay may not be granted until the employee has had continuous employment with the state for six (6) months, although credit will be accrued during that period. TDLR
Sick Leave Employees earn 8 hours of sick leave per month. Part-time employees accrue sick leave on a proportionate basis. TDLR
Sick Leave Pool Sick Leave Pool is available to employees if they or their immediate families suffer a catastrophic illness or injury and all other leave has been exhausted. TDLR
Emergency Leave Up to three (3) days of paid leave in the event of serious illness or death of a family member. TDLR
Military Leave Up to fifteen (15) days per fiscal year will be granted to an employee called to active duty. TDLR
Jury duty Employees will be granted leave with pay during jury service. TDLR
Holidays Holidays are authorized and designated by the Legislature each year. Please see the State of Texas HR site for additional information. TDLR
Family Medical Leave All employees with 12 months of state service who have worked 1,250 hours with the agency in the preceding 12 months are entitled to a maximum of 12 weeks of paid or unpaid leave. Personal leave runs concurrently with FLMA leave. The agency will pay salary and health insurance premiums while employee uses sick, annual or any other leave during the FMLA period. Employee is responsible for paying premiums on optional coverages and for insurance premiums if on a leave-without-pay status for a full calendar month.
Parent-Teacher Conference Leave An employee may use up to 8 hours of sick leave each calendar year to attend parent-teacher conferences for the employee's children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. TDLR
Longevity Pay Employees receive $20.00 per month for each 2 years of service, with a maximum of $420.00 available. TDLR
Workers' Compensation Employees sustaining a work-related injury or illness may be eligible for medical and income benefits. TDLR
Retirement By law, all employees are members of the Employees Retirement System (ERS), and 6% of their gross monthly salary is deducted and placed in ERS. Employee contribution is on a pre-tax basis. Vesting at 5 years without retiree Group Insurance or 10 years at age 65 or meeting rule of 80 with retiree Group Insurance. New employees’ retirement benefits become effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment. Employee contribution
*401K and 457 Plans Deferred compensation programs which an employee can select as supplemental retirement programs. Money deferred from an employee's taxable income will not be taxed until withdrawn from the plan. TDLR offers the TexaSaver (401k) and the Texas Deferred Compensation (457) plans. Employees pay all deferred monies and any applicable fees. Pre-tax payroll deduction plan is offered.
*Texas College Investment Plan Employees make after tax-contributions to a 529 College Savings Plan without paying the taxes as the account grows. Employee pays all applicable costs. A payroll deduction program is available.
*Direct Deposit Employees can select direct deposit of monthly salary warrants to the employee's designated financial institution. N/A
Benefit Replacement Pay Employees who were active state employees on 8/31/95 are entitled to a benefit replacement pay that covers the portion of the Social Security (FICA) contribution previously paid by the State, up to a maximum of $965.25 per calendar year. State employees hired after 8/31/95 or who have left state employment for 12 consecutive months are not eligible. TDLR
Employee Assistance Program TDLR provides EAP for all employees. Assistance is available for problems such as family and marital counseling, child and elder care, alcohol problems, drug abuse, legal services, financial counseling, and depression or anxiety. The EAP provides a variety of services, such as assessment visits and short-term counseling, free of charge. TDLR
Tuition Reimbursement TDLR provides professional development opportunities through our Tuition Reimbursement Program, and may reimburse full time regular employees for tuition and required fees, up to $500 per fiscal year. TDLR
Flexible or Reduced Work Schedules A privilege extended to employees in eligible positions allowing them to adjust their work schedules to maximize their quality time on the job and meet individual needs in their personal lives. N/A
