The office of Educator Certification provides the following services to educators and the general public:

  • Processing and issuing the appropriate educator certificates to:
    • qualified individuals recommended by approved Texas Educator Preparation Programs
    • applicants who hold appropriate degrees and credentials from another state or country
    • certified Texas teachers adding certification based on completion of appropriate examination(s)
    • applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and qualify for the Temporary Teacher Certificate through one of the three approved schools 
  • Processing and issuing certificates to educational aides
  • Processing the renewal of standard educator certificates
    • assisting educators with standard renewal requirements
    • how to locate renewal information and
    • how to renew their standard certificates online
  • Advising school district administrators and educator preparation programs on critical certification
  • Interpreting SBEC rules and assignment issues related to hiring qualified individuals
  • Assisting school district personnel with permit questions such as:
    • permit requirements and permit rules
    • the online permit application process
    • the different types of permits
    • permit forms
    • status and fees
    • including permits requested on a hardship basis
  • Providing to educators and the general public information related to certification, and
  • Assisting with test registration questions

Deadline to Apply for ExCET-Based Certificates Scheduled for Deletion in Fall 2009
