Surplus Property getting the word out

The TFC’s Surplus Property store on Bolm Road in Austin has gotten a fair share of media attention of late. KDFW/Fox 4 News visited
last month and stayed for three hours, shooting video from various locations, gathering information for a future story.

Reporter Scott Sayres and videographer Jeremy Pollard said the feature would likely run in November, and added that it might be picked
up nationally by the Fox Financial Network.

The Austin Chronicle newspaper also jumped on the Surplus Property store bandwagon, naming the property as the “Best Clip Joint” in
Austin for all of the nail clippers made available to the public.

The story said: “…Where do all these forfeited items end up? Well, several Texas airports send the prohibited goodies to a warehouse in East
Austin where they join other government surplus items for sale back to the public. In addition to pocketknives for $1, you can browse through jewelry
that was never claimed from the lost and found and a storeroom stacked to the rafters with old desks, filing cabinets, and other office furniture.”

Additionally, a mention of the surplus store in the November issue of Budget Travel magazine ultimately made it to the Yahoo.com home page on
Nov. 1, and so many potential customers visited the site that the TFC Web site was temporarily paralyzed.
