The Advanced Academic Unit in the Division of Curriculum provides
direction and leadership to K-12 advanced academic programs.
Unit staff assists districts statewide with implementation of
the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented
Students, oversees the Texas AP/IB Incentive Programs and
collaborates with the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented,
The College Board, and other groups to meet the needs of gifted
and academically advanced students. The Advanced Academics Unit
provides on-going communication with the field about current
issues pertaining to the gifted/talented and advanced programs
and policy interpretations related to the Texas Administrative
Code Chapter 89 and graduation requirements in Chapter 74.

Teacher Training Reimbursement
In support of the Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate
(AP/IB) Programs, the application for 2008 Teacher Training Reimbursement
(TTR) is now available online. This incentive program allows the
Texas Education Agency (TEA) to reimburse districts in an amount
not to exceed $450 for each AP/IB or Pre-AP/IB teacher attending
qualified training. The deadline for a campus/district to make application
for these awards is Friday, September 26, 2008.
The process for applying for TTR is an evolving one.

In support of the Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate
(AP/IB) Programs, the application for 2008 Campus Awards is now
available at http://landry.tea.state.tx.us/TEA_Survey/AAS/Campus_Awards_2007/2007-2008_Campus_Awards.htm.
This incentive program allows Texas Education Agency (TEA) to award
up to $100 for each student scoring a three or higher on an AP exam
or four or higher on an IB exam. The deadline for making application
for these awards is Friday, May 16, 2008.
SECOND CHANCE TO SUBMIT
TEACHER TRAINING REIMBURSEMENTS: ONE WEEK ONLY
October 8, 2007
Due to some possible technical problems, we are re-opening the
TTR application window for one week to accommodate those districts
that had problems completing their applications. If your district
has not applied for the 2007 Teacher Training Reimbursements, please
complete the online application process at this time. You may access
all the appropriate forms and instructions at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/gted/.
The application process will reopen immediately and close Sunday,
October 14, 2007, at midnight (CST). Please be advised that we must
close the TTR application process by this deadline in order to process
payments to districts. No further extensions will be offered.

2007 AP/IB Test Fee Subsidies

In support of the Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate
(AP/IB) Programs, the Test Fee Subsidies available for public school
students have been announced. The TEA will assume $30.00 of the
cost of each public school student’s examination and, through
USDE grant funds, an additional $18.00 of the cost of exams taken
by low-income students. This subsidy opportunity is accessed by
districts/testing centers through the exam ordering processes of
the College Board and International Baccalaureate Organization.
For details on how to appropriately complete the exam order forms,
please contact those organizations directly.

AP/IB Teacher Training Reimbursements -|-

In order to assist schools with the development of quality programs,
Texas districts are reimbursed up to $450.00 per teacher for approved
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate training.
Texas law requires that application be submitted to the agency
to obtain the reimbursement. Teachers who teach an AP, IB, Pre-AP,
Pre-IB, or MYP course in the fall of 2006 and who attended an approved
training had the opportunity to apply until the deadline of September
29, 2006. Applications are no longer being accepted.
Filed applications are currently being processed. Payments to districts
are anticipated in December.

In support of the Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate
(AP/IB) Programs, the Campus Awards for all qualifying campuses
for the 2005 AP/IB Campus Awards have been sent to your district.
This incentive program allows Texas Education Agency (TEA) to award
up to $100 for each student scoring a three or higher on an AP exam
or four or higher on an IB exam. These awards were funded at $100
per award for exams administered in May 2005.

In order to assist schools with the development of
quality programs, Texas districts are reimbursed up to $450.00 per
teacher for approved Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate
training.
Texas law requires that application be submitted to
the agency to obtain the reimbursement. Teachers who will teach
an AP, IB, Pre-AP, Pre-IB, or MYP course in the fall of 2006 and
who attended an approved training may apply for the reimbursement
by following the directions on the survey
found at http://landry.tea.state.tx.us/TEA_Survey/AAS/TTR2006/TTR2006.htm.
The survey will be available until September 29, 2006. No applications
will be accepted after that time.
