TPWD Angler Education Programs
In Basic Fishing or Junior Angler courses you will:
- learn the basics of traditional fishing such as tying the hook on to the line;
- cast a spincasting reel;
- identify fish; and
- demonstrate how to be a safe and responsible angler.
In Advanced Fishing or Master Angler classes, you will:
- learn how to cast other types of rods and reels;
- tie additional useful fishing knots; and
- demonstrate how to handle your catch.
In Basic Fly Fishing courses, you will:
- learn about fly fishing equipment;
- perform the basic 4-part cast; sample aquatic insects to see what fish eat; and
- discuss stream ecology.
In Intermediate Fly Fishing, you will:
- hone your casting skills;
- tie at least 2 flies; and
- learn some specific fly fishing strategies.
