Documents
Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Required to view material encoded as Portable Document Format (PDF). PDF is a universal file format that preserves the look and layout of a printed document. These files are accessible through a free viewer published by Adobe. This file type is used if you want to print a copy of the document. PDF files cannot generally be edited electronically.

Open Office
- Free and open source office productivity suite compatible with all major file formats. Works under Windows, Macintosh, Unix, and Linux operating systems.
- Can be used to view material encoded in Microsoft Word doc format (DOC).
- Can be used to view material encoded in Microsoft Excel format (XLS).
- Can be used to view material encoded in Microsoft PowerPoint format (PPT).

Video/Audio
A media player is required to access audio and/or video files, such as .rm, .ram, .wma, .wmv, .mov, MP3 and others. To see if you have a media player installed on your computer, do this test:
- Open a sample Windows Media Audio file.
- Open a sample MP3 file.
iTunes
- iTunes is available as a free download for Mac OS X, Windows XP, and Windows 2000 from Apple's website.
- iTunes plays digital music, music videos, television shows, iPod games, audiobooks, various podcasts, and feature length films.

Winamp
- Winamp Player supports over 50 different types of audio/video formats, including .m3u, podcasts and online radio.
- Free for Windows operating systems.

- RealOne Player is required to view material encoded as RealAudio and RealVideo.
