The Texas Historical Commission's Military Sites Program provides advanced technical and professional support leading to the recognition and preservation of sites significant to the military history of Texas, both inside and outside the state.

Program goals:

1. Assisting governmental entities, including other states, institutions and organizations, to identify and preserve relevant properties

2. Encouraging the appropriate designation and commemoration of military sites through existing history programs

3. Providing information on heritage tourism and other economic development opportunities related to historic sites through a variety of media and program initiatives

4. Seeking funds from public or private sources to accomplish specific goals

5. Promoting sound scholarship that will enhance the accurate site-specific interpretation of military properties
