International Protocol
By Executive Order, Governor Perry has directed the Secretary of State to serve as Texas’ Chief International Protocol Officer. In this capacity, the Secretary represents the Governor and the State of Texas at meetings and events with members of the international diplomatic corps.
In addition, the Secretary is charged with coordinating and facilitating meetings between Governor Perry and international leaders. The Secretary also acts as a liaison to foreign government officials and business leaders by addressing problems which have not been resolved through alternate channels.
In response to the Governor’s Executive Order, the Secretary named a Director of Protocol. The responsibilities given to the Director of Protocol include providing support to international officials posted in the United States, assisting the Secretary with logistics for each diplomatic visit, and rendering assistance to the diplomatic corps and the international community in general.
