and Facilitate a Support Group for Victims of
Stalking
is a guide for victim
service providers, volunteers, and other concerned community members on how to
initiate and run a stalking support group in their agency or community. The guide includes information about
designing a support group for stalking victims, recommendations for group
membership, tips for facilitators, a sample curriculum, and much more.

Awareness Month Web site
Receives Design Award
The
Stalking Resource Center of the National Center
for Victims of Crime has received an ASTRID Silver Award for its design of
the 2009 National Stalking Awareness Month campaign Web site, developed in
partnership with the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of
Justice. The international ASTRID Awards program recognizes innovation and
originality in design. More than 700 entries from 20 countries were judged by
leading designers, art directors, and graphic artists from Canada, Europe,
Hong Kong and all across the United States on the basis of concept,
creativity, message clarity, and production. The Web site can still be viewed at
http://www.stalkingawarenessmonth.org.

"Stalking Victimization in
the United States"
A major national study on stalking, released on January 13,
2009, by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS),
serves as a wake-up call about a serious and often misunderstood crime, says
the National Center for Victims of Crime, the nation's leading resource and
advocacy organization for crime victims and founder of the Stalking Resource
Center. Stalking Victimization
in the United States, the largest collection of data on
stalking prevalence and behavior to date, found that 3.4 million persons
identified themselves as victims of stalking in a 12-month period. This figure, which represents an
increase of 2 million victims per year over the findings of a key 1998
study, suggests the urgent need for a
more comprehensive response to the crime.
