Ports of Entry
- Personnel in the Ports of Entry (POE) program monitor compliance with the personal importation laws of the State of Texas along the Texas-Mexico border.
- Taxpayer compliance officers verify that persons importing alcoholic beverages meet all legal requirements for importing and collecting the appropriate fees and taxes.
- Through an agreement with the Comptroller of Public Accounts, POE personnel are also responsible for determining compliance with the state laws in the importation of cigarettes and collecting the taxes.
- POE personnel are strategically placed at various locations along the Texas-Mexico border to maximize revenue collection.
- Staffing is maintained through six port offices, which monitor 26 international crossings.
