Cemetery Associations Preserving a historic cemetery involves careful planning to provide for its ongoing care. One item to consider is how to create a cemetery preservation and maintenance organization. Although one individual takes the lead, long-term preservation usually requires involvement of an organization, such as a local cemetery association, family cemetery association or a nonprofit "friends of the cemetery" organization, if a local government owns the site. The Texas Historical Commission (THC) distributes materials on setting up a cemetery association, prepared by B.F. Hicks, an attorney in Mount Vernon, Texas. We thank him for making these publications available to the preservation community. Articles of Association Questions? Contact the cemetery coordinator or call 512.475.4167. |
