Quick Start for:

Electronic Reporting and Fund Transfers

Electronic reporting services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Use these services to save time, money and paper.

WebFile

File and pay sales, franchise, hotel, mixed beverage and motor vehicle rental taxes online.

Sales Tax WebFile is recommended for anyone filing fewer than 30 outlets or authorities. WebFile meets the mandatory requirement for submitting sales tax data electronically.

Franchise taxpayers can use this system to electronically file and pay all reports and extension requests. Franchise Tax Webfile is recommended for:

  • single entities filing their No Tax Due, E-Z Computation or Long Form report,
  • anyone filing an Extension Request, and
  • entities filing a combined report with a small number of affiliates.

Because entities filing a combined report must report additional data on behalf of each of their affiliates, WebFile is NOT recommended for reporting entities with large numbers of affiliates.

TeleFile

Use the telephone to file a sales tax return if you have one or more locations and no sales at any of them.

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is designed for businesses reporting a large number of outlets, leases, schedules or authorities. EDI meets the mandatory requirement for submitting tax data electronically. Taxpayers and tax professionals can use the Comptroller's approved EDI software to transmit return data and payments for the following taxes:

  • International Fuels Tax Agreement (IFTA)
  • Motor Fuels
  • Natural Gas and Crude Oil
  • Sales Tax/Direct Pay

Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)

Transfer payments electronically via TEXNET, WebEFT or Credit Card to the Comptroller's bank. This is mandatory for taxpayers when payments exceed $10,000 or $100,000 for certain taxes. See Who must pay by EFT? for more information.

Licensed Customs Brokers Export Certification System (LCBECS)

Customs brokers licensed in Texas must complete Export Certifications online.

Cigarette Delivery Sales Report

Starting September 1, 2003, the Texas cigarette excise tax must be paid on cigarettes Texans purchase by mail, telephone or on the Internet, and that are delivered to the purchaser in Texas. For more information, see "Notice to Internet and Mail Order Cigarette Sellers (98-697)."

Unclaimed Property Holder Reporting

Financial institutions and corporations holding unclaimed property may file their annual reports using the Comptroller's free reporting software. Businesses may submit their report data to the Comptroller's office electronically, using the Internet, diskettes, tape reels, cartridges or compact discs.
