Multiple Owners and Businesses
Will I receive a license badge for a business license?
No. License badges are only issued to an individual for an individual license.

How do I apply online for more than one year?
Only the multiple owner business license type is eligible to renew for either 1, 2, or 3 years. Vendors and Kennels may only renew for one year.

To renew your license for only one year, simply enter your license number. To renew a multiple owner license for more than one year, enter your license number followed by a dash and either a '2' or '3' for the number of years desired. For example, if your license number is 1798, enter '1798' in the license number field to renew for one year. For a 2-year renewal, enter '1798-2'. For a 3-year renewal, enter '1798 -3'. Do not attempt to renew your 'base' license number more than once. If you submit a renewal for '1798-3' and then again for '1798-1', you will not be renewed for four years. We will process the three year renewal (1798-3) and you will forfeit the cost of the one-year (1798-1) license fee. The fee for the one-year renewal cannot be refunded.

I want a vendor's license. What do I do?
You must complete one business application for the vendor business and one individual license application for the designated representative or owner of the company. All employees of the company will be required to complete an individual application as well. All of these licenses may be renewed online. The vendor license will be renewed using the online business application while the designated representative and the vendor employees will need to renew using the online licensee application.

I own race animals in partnership with others. What are the licensing requirements?
The partnership must register as a multiple owner which is a business license. When completing the online process for a multiple owner, you must list all partners, including those who own less than 5% of the partnership. In addition, each partner who owns 5% or more of the partnership must be individually licensed as an owner. The partners who own less than 5% are not required to be individually licensed. You may call any Racing Commission licensing office and get this information if you are trying to renew online. As the expiration date of the multiple owner license approaches, the licensing department will also be sending out letters to multiple owners who are eligible to renew with current partner information. This information is required when completing an online application.

In the past I had a partnership license but this year I have different owners. Should I go online and renew the old partnership license and change the owners or should I go online under the new partnership and get a new partnership license?
You should select the new business option online for each NEW entity (partnership). For example, last year Williams/Smith/Jones were partners. This year Jones sold his interest to Williams. The animal papers read Williams/Smith. This is a new entity therefore a new multiple owner (partnership) license must be registered.

Can my partners owning less than 5% get individually licensed if they wish?
Yes.

Whom do I contact for any ownership changes in the partnership?
You must notify a Racing Commission office of any changes in ownership.

Can I use a stable name that has already been registered by another entity?
No. Once a stable name has been registered, no other entity can use the same stable name.
