REHABILITATION THERAPIST TECHNICIAN III

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs moderately complex (journey-level) habilitation and rehabilitation therapy work. Work involves providing habilitative and rehabilitative services for clients with mental impairments. May train others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Studies clients' behavior to determine the need for and value of therapeutic activities and notes clients' progress.

Instructs clients in therapeutic activities, such as arts, crafts, drama, music, printing, sewing, and recreation; and provides feedback regarding clients’ progress.

Prepares materials for therapeutic activities, orders supplies, and oversees the maintenance of rehabilitation services equipment.

Prepares reports and progress notes on clients' attendance and their responses to treatments.

Accompanies clients to and from activities and appointments. 

Conducts physical education and recreational activities for assigned clients. 

Provides fitness, leisure, and recreation skill training and activities to enhance the development of identified deficiencies and to maintain clients’ maximum physical ability.

Maintains recreational facilities in therapeutic work areas.

Assists in the development and evaluation of treatment plans for assigned therapeutic specialty.

Assists with monitoring the implementation of the program objectives.

Assists with providing instruction and training regarding treatment plans.

May ensure the satisfactory completion of paperwork in order to meet applicable standards and procedures.

May train others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in therapeutic work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of therapeutic methods and techniques in the rehabilitation therapy area of specialization and of mental illness and mental retardation.

Skill in the use of equipment, tools, and materials used in therapeutic service activities.

Ability to provide rehabilitative therapy, to prepare concise reports, to communicate effectively, and to train others.
