ORTHOPEDIC EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN III
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs advanced (senior-level) orthopedic
work. Work involves planning, scheduling, and overseeing the manufacture and
repair of specialized orthopedic equipment or orthopedic devices; evaluating
individuals with disabilities for adaptive equipment; and designing specialized
orthopedic devices. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited
supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and
independent judgment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Oversee and
schedules orthopedic equipment production, maintenance, and repair programs.
Oversees
fittings of adaptive equipment.
Plans
programs for the manufacture and preventive maintenance of modified and
customized adaptive equipment or orthopedic devices.
Designs and prepares plans and specifications
for custom and adaptive equipment.
Inspects
adaptive equipment.
Inspects
jobs in progress and performs quality assurance checks on equipment.
Measures
individuals with disabilities using adaptive measuring devices.
May supervise the work of others.
Performs
related work as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Experience and Education
Experience in orthopedic equipment
manufacture and repair work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or
equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted
for one another.
Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities
Knowledge of orthopedic equipment,
of maintenance techniques and procedures, of anatomical terminology, and of
occupational and physical therapy procedures.
Skill in the use of tools and
equipment for the manufacture and maintenance of adaptive equipment.
Ability to prepare specifications;
to plan and organize repair and preventive maintenance programs; to communicate
effectively; and to supervise the work of others.
