RISK MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs moderately complex (journey-level) work in the development and implementation of risk management loss control programs and guidelines.  Work involves reviewing, evaluating, inspecting, and developing agency risk management programs and conducting comprehensive reviews and examinations of a broad range of loss, liability, or risk exposures.  May train others.  Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Develops and implements risk management loss control programs and guidelines.

Reviews files, reports, and programs for compliance with applicable state and federal laws related to risk management and loss control programs.

Reviews accident, damage, or loss claims notification procedures; claims investigation and analysis procedures; loss control procedures; and risk financing procedures.

Reviews loss and exposure data.

Conducts risk management program reviews and safety program evaluations; conducts presentations on risk management programs.

Conducts on-site inspections of properties and facilities to identify hazards and risk exposures.

Consults with risk management representatives to identify loss exposures.

Prepares technical and comprehensive reports, plans, and procedures for developing risk management programs, reviews, and inspections.

Assists in accomplishing loss avoidance, prevention, reduction, retention, transfer, and control assessment for risk management programs.

May train others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in risk management, loss control, or workers' compensation and safety program work.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business management, public administration, risk management, insurance, occupational safety, or a related field is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of loss control management, of training and presentation techniques, of workers' compensation and safety program management, and of risk management concepts and techniques.

Ability to analyze plans and programs; to analyze risk management and loss control material; to analyze agency policies and programs for compliance with applicable state and federal statutes, standards, rules, and professional risk management guidelines; to coordinate state risk management, loss control, and safety programs; to communicate effectively; and to train others.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure

May require certification in loss control management, risk management, insurance, or safety management.
