GEOSCIENTIST
I
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs routine (journey-level) geosciences
work. Work involves preparing designs,
plans, estimates, and calculations; performing inspections; and collecting
data. May train others. Works under moderate supervision, with
limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Conducts inspections for compliance with laws
and specifications.
Analyzes geological, geochemical, and
geophysical information from sources such as survey data, well logs, bore
holes, and aerial photos.
Collects technical data, analyzes findings,
and assists with developing recommendations for programs or projects.
Researches laws and policies and delivers
responses to the public and governmental agencies.
Plans and coordinates work projects.
Maintains and prepares records and reports.
Assists in conducting geological,
geochemical, and geophysical field studies and surveys; sample collection; or
drilling and test programs used to collect data for research or application.
Assists in conducting geological and
geophysical studies to provide information for use in regional development, resource
management, land use, site selection, and development of other projects.
Assists with implementing technical projects
and design preparation, plans, estimates, and calculations.
May train others.
Performs related work as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Experience and Education
Experience in geological and geosciences
work. Graduation from an accredited
four-year college or university with major course work in geology or a related
field is generally preferred. Experience
and education may be substituted for one another.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of geological and earth science
principles, techniques, and procedures; of arithmetic, algebra, geometry,
calculus, statistics, and their applications; and of the practical application
of engineering science and technology.
Skill in the use of standard tools of the
profession.
Ability to plan and oversee projects, to
conduct inspections, to apply geological concepts, and to train others.
Registration, Certification, or
Licensure
Must be licensed as a Professional
Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists.
