ARCHITECT III

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs advanced (senior-level) architectural work.  Work involves directing, planning, and coordinating the construction, maintenance, and execution of architectural projects. May assign and/or supervise the work of others.  Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Oversees or determines functional and spatial requirements of new structures or renovations; and prepares information regarding design, structure specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.

Oversees or designs and plans layout of projects, including preparing drawings and specification documents.

Oversees or conducts inspections and evaluates data for compliance with laws and specifications.

Oversees the development and implementation of statewide agency programs.

Oversees the maintenance and preparation of records and reports.

Develops and prepares consultant contracts; advises and selects consultants and negotiates with consultants on fees as assigned.

Directs, plans, and coordinates work projects.

Prepares administrative and technical reports.

Provides architectural consultation services.

Performs data collection, evaluation, analyses, investigations, inspections, forecasts, and assessments associated with facility projects.

Conducts special studies, reduces facts to specific findings, and recommends solutions.

May assign and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in architectural work.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in architecture or a related field is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of architectural principles, techniques, and procedures.

Skill in the use of architectural tools.

Ability to plan and oversee projects, to conduct inspections, to apply architectural concepts, to communicate effectively, and to assign and/or supervise the work of others.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure

Must be registered as an Architect or Landscape Architect by the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners.
