ENGINEERING
TECHNICIAN I
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs entry-to-routine
(journey-level) engineering work. Work involves conducting surveys and
inspections, and collecting and correlating engineering and geological
data. Works under
moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and
independent judgment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Prepares estimates, plans, and
specifications, and performs mathematical calculations.
Prepares drawings and cross sections of
maintenance and construction projects, and prepares tracings, inks, and
letters.
Prepares, processes, and maintains reports.
Conducts inspections of maintenance and
construction projects for compliance with specifications and requirements, and
conducts laboratory tests to verify whether construction materials conform to
department specifications.
Installs, operates, and maintains equipment
and instruments related to the gathering of traffic, geological, or
hydrological data.
Maintains construction
project records.
Assists with core drilling
operations and equipment.
May perform surveying work.
Performs related work as
assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Experience and Education
Experience in surveying,
geology, hydrology, or engineering work. Graduation from a standard
senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted
for one another.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of surveying and
engineering principles, techniques, and procedures; of mathematics; and of
applicable safety requirements.
Skill in the operation and
maintenance of applicable equipment and tools.
Ability to conduct
inspections and laboratory tests and to prepare reports.
