INSPECTOR VI

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs advanced (senior-level) inspection work. Work involves planning, coordinating, overseeing, or conducting inspections and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and agency policies. May assign and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Oversees a program of inspections and the enforcement of laws and regulations.

Oversees and conducts inspections for compliance with Texas codes, standards, and laws; and researches and identifies the causes of violations.

Oversees the investigation of complaints.

Oversees or prepares reports and the maintenance of records.

Oversees or conducts licensing examinations.

Makes recommendations on violations noted during inspections and conducts follow-up inspections.

Establishes the priorities and methods of securing evidence.

Evaluates programs and procedures to improve operations.

Implements quality control systems.

Ensures the collection of inspection fees according to departmental procedures.

Testifies at hearings or before courts of jurisdiction.

Assists with budget preparation.

May assign and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in inspection work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Texas laws, codes, and standards related to the area of responsibility; of the principles and methods of field inspection, law enforcement, and quality control; of the basic rules of evidence; and of business practices in regulated occupations.

Skill in conducting inspections, in determining proper courses of action, and in using instruments or tools necessary to perform inspections.

Ability to prepare reports; to analyze data; to interpret laws and regulations; and to assign and/or supervise the work of others.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure

May require certification for a specific program area.
