STATISTICIAN III

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Performs advanced (senior-level) statistical work. Work involves overseeing the planning, developing, and presenting of statistical data and reports.  May assign and/or supervise the work of others.  Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Oversees the design of statistical research projects.

Oversees and coordinates work with other departments.

Oversees, collects, compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data.

Develops plans, policies, and procedures for analyzing and interpreting statistical data.

Directs the selection of data collection methods, and determines the types and sizes of sample groups to be used. 

Evaluates sources of information to determine any limitations in terms of reliability or usability.

Plans, develops, initiates, and presents statistical data, reports, and processes. 

May assign and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

Experience and Education

Experience in developing, compiling, analyzing, and interpreting statistical data.  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is generally preferred.  Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of statistics and mathematics; and of statistical methods and formulas, research techniques, and the sources and availability of information.

Ability to organize, coordinate, and direct statistical research projects and reports; to evaluate statistical data; to direct the development of collection methods; and to assign and/or supervise the work of others.
