M. Karinne McCullough was appointed as the Clerk of the Court in 2005. The Court made the appointment pursuant to Texas Constitution article V, section 5a for a four-year term beginning September 15, 2005, and in 2009 reappointed her for a second four-term. Before joining the Court in 1999 to serve as a lawyer on the Metropolitan Backlog Reduction Task Force for Justice Jackson B. Smith, Jr., Ms. McCullough was in private practice from 1988 to 1999 and concentrated on appellate work. In 2001, Ms. McCullough was named Court Administrator. She retains her responsibility for the Court’s business affairs in her current position as Clerk.

Ms. McCullough received her B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from the University of Houston, and her J.D. from South Texas College of Law. Before attending law school, she was a special education teacher. Ms. McCullough is a past chair of the Houston Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section and a past president of the Alumni Association for South Texas College of Law.
