W. Benjamin Fry, President

W. Benjamin (Ben) Fry is currently the owner of Fry's Prescription Pharmacy in his hometown of San Benito, and Small Fry's, a pediatric pharmacy in Harlingen.  Mr. Fry previously owned two other pharmacies in Harlingen. 

Mr. Fry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Houston in 1972, where he serves on the Dean's Advisory Council and was named one of 50 outstanding alumni of the college. Mr. Fry also serves on the Dean's Advisory Council and Admissions Committee for the University of Texas-Pan American Pharmacy Co-Operative Program in Edinburg and the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Texas A & M Health Science Center at Kingsville, Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy. He is a licensed preceptor for the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Mr. Fry is a board member of Data Rx and has served on the Legend and Tru-Care Pharmacy Co-Operatives. In August 2002, he was appointed to serve on the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Compounding Task Force. 

Mr. Fry is one of 18 original Fellows of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists and a charter member of the Mading Society of the University of Houston.  He was named Compounding Pharmacist of the Month by Professional Compounding Centers of America and was named “Best Pharmacist” by the Valley Morning Star for the past two years. In 2004, Mr. Fry was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Houston. In March 2008, he received the Dean’s Special Recognition Award from the University of Houston, College of Pharmacy and in May 2008 he served as the College’s commencement speaker.

His professional memberships include the Texas Pharmacy Association, where he was elected Compounding Academy Chairman. Mr. Fry has been active in the Rio Grande Valley Pharmacy Association and has served as president. He is also a member of the American Pharmacy Association, Fellow of the American College of Apothecaries, and the National Community Pharmacists Association. He is a life member of Phi Delta Chi Fraternity and the University of Houston Alumni Association.

Mr. Fry has been active in both community and church organizations throughout his career.  He has served on the San Benito School Board, is vice-president of the San Benito Industrial Foundation, elected to the Cameron County Irrigation District Trustees, and appointed to the Advisory Utilization Board of Rio Grande Valley Indigent Care Program. He is a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, where he has served in many positions including board president and financial chairman.  He is also a board member of the United Methodist Church, Mc Allen District.

 Mr. Fry's daughter, Beth, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Woman's University.

During his leisure time, he enjoys hunting, shot gunning, fishing and driving his classic 1956 Thunderbird.
