The State Classification Office (SCO) is a unique team that is responsible for maintaining the State’s Compensation and Classification System and providing information on employee compensation issues to the Legislature. In addition to compensation management, the SCO has the opportunity to provide advice and guidance to state agencies and conduct research and analysis of statewide workforce and human resources management issues.
The SCO assists the Legislature and state human resources departments through three strategic areas:
Compensation Management
- The SCO supports the Legislature by determining the competitiveness of the compensation system and recommends plan changes needed to maintain the system. In addition, the SCO assists agencies in using the system effectively and monitors agency compliance with the system.
Workforce Analysis
- The SCO conducts analysis on the statewide workforce and develops reports that identify the human capital required to meet agency goals and missions.
General HR Services
- The SCO assists the Legislature and state agencies with human resources issues and related statutes in finding more efficient ways to accomplish their responsibilities.
